FULL SYNOPSIS
Set in the chaotic and wildly unconventional Crunchem Hall Academy, this musical comedy follows a group of misunderstood children sent away by their dysfunctional families to be “fixed” by a school run by the terrifying Christie Crunchball and her equally eccentric staff. While the adults believe the children are the problem, it quickly becomes clear that the grown-ups behave far worse than the pupils themselves.
Among the students are kind-hearted Tilda, neglected by her cruel parents, and Jimmy, an orphan living with his spiteful aunts. The pair form an unlikely friendship and soon discover that many of their classmates are hiding good hearts beneath rebellious exteriors.
As the students grow and change, they begin standing up for what is right, particularly when the vulnerable Loompa Oompas, the overworked helpers of the school, are mistreated. Even notoriously selfish students like Velicity and Viola discover empathy and kindness within themselves, proving they are far more mature than the adults around them.
Everything comes to a head during a disastrous parents’ evening where the parents descend into petty arguments, insults, food fights, and complete chaos.
By the end of the story, the children emerge more confident, compassionate, and united, while the adults are forced to confront their own behavior.
Crunchem Hall is a joyful celebration of friendship, individuality, and the idea that sometimes the people who need educating most are the grown-ups!
CHARACTERS -Originally written for 39 principal roles plus optional ensemble roles for younger performers. Flexible casting allows roles to be doubled, reduced, or adapted to suit your group, with a recommended cast size of 30 –50 performers.
